TrainingMeet our trainers, Dan Van Veen, and Carolyn Johnson. Dan and Carolyn have both ran with the Marathon Mission Team in the past, and are well qualified to offer their advice. Feel free to email them below.
Dan has been asked by Lisa Harper, Founder of Marathon Mission, to share his talent and passion for helping Marathon Mission participants with their walking and running goals as one of our Email Trainers. (See his biography on this site.) Dan is a qualified Marathon Mission advisor, with a love for God to boot! Lisa first came to know Dan in 2003, when he wrote the first of three stories about Marathon Mission for the Assemblies of God National News on the web. Dan has quite the wealth of experience and passion for Marathon Mission himself. In 2006 he, his wife Lori, and a crew of friends from Springfield, MO, actually traveled to Detroit to run the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Marathon (and half marathon, for some of them) with the Marathon Mission Team. We were delighted to have them join us. Now Dan knows first hand what it is like to run the Detroit marathon for a reason beyond himself, WITH US! You can email Dan by clicking here.
Carolyn has been a Fitness Professional for many years with Bally Total Fitness as a group exercise instructor (B Fit University certification) and personal trainer (WITS World Instructor Training Schools), in addition to training clients out of her home gym. She also instructs Mat Pilates and Trifecta Classes at Next Level Health & Fitness, a newly opened gym in St. Clair Shores. Carolyn currently holds many certifications in; Reaction Cycling (spinning), Step Aerobics, Power Flex (weight lifting), Hi Low Impact Aerobics, Haitha Yoga (Total Fitness Yoga), all B-Fit University certifications. She also instructs Mat Pilates (SCW cert /Chicago), and went to New York City SCW Convention for her Balletone certification. She also has over 15 years of Ballet Training and Dance Performance Experience, and currently teaches Ballet at Bally’s. Carolyn’s first 26.2 Marathon was in October 1997, and her second 26.2 Marathon was in October 2004 on behalf of Marathon Mission. Running the marathon the 2nd time had a whole new meaning and purpose. She rean for a reason and a higher purpose, putting others in greater need and raising money for the cause to help build a church that would strongly support, feed, and clothe the needy in all different parts of the world. "It was very rewarding crossing the finish line after 26.2 miles later and knowing my hard work had paid off to those with a much greater need." If you have any questions about running/walking training you can email Carolyn by clicking here.

Speedy Gonzales has been an elite runner for many years, but he is no longer conducting any training. He urges you to watch the wild and crazy antics of the Road Runner to see how he uses Wiley Coyote as a training tool in his quest to run the Ultra-Max-Mega-Marathon of 1000 miles. MEEP MEEP!
