THE DATE: Marathon Mission will be participating with the Detroit Free Press/ Flagstar Marathon on Sunday, October 19, 2010. Please visit the Free Press race website at www.detroitfreepressmarathon.comfor continual race updates.
Please register DIRECTLY WITH THE DETROIT FREE PRESS. Online registration is required. You must indicate the Marathon Mission Team when you register. IMPORTANT: Go to www.marathonmission.net and click on the registration link to the Free Press. This is the ONLY way of officially participating with the Marathon Mission Team. Also, the earlier people register, the cheaper the cost.
PICK A DISTANCE: There really is something for everyone. Please know that you can choose a distance that is best for you: 5K walk or run (about 3.1 miles), 3-5 person marathon relay team, ½ marathon walk or run, or the full marathon (26.2 miles). Donors will give generously to your cause no matter what distance you cover!
PICK A CHARITY:Visit our website for a complete list of 2008 Marathon Mission charities. Choose one that is near and dear to your heart. This will help motivate you in the months to come as you walk or run for a reason beyond yourself. Notice details under each charity’s name as to where your pledges should be sent.
PLEDGES: Please feel free to download and use our pledge sheets and brochure from our website. Viewing last year’s pictures and videos from our website often persuades both participants and donors. We recommend that all pledges be collected by race day and turned in to your charity by November 1. All we ask from you is the completion of a Marathon Mission Questionnnaire by November 1, 2010.
SEND and/or email SUPPORT LETTER: Download, copy and mail or email a support letter for participants, written by Lisa Harper for you! Try sending out ten and see what happens!
PACKAGE PICK-UP: All walkers and runners must pick up their own race packets (with their race number, timing tag for shoe, etc.) at the Health and Fitness Expo at Cobo Hall downtown on Friday, October 15 or Saturday, October 16. Proper ID must be shown. See www.detroitmarathon.com for exact requirements. Only 5K participants have the option of picking up their race packets either at the Expo or on race morning near the start area. It is strongly encouraged that participants get theirs from the Expo ahead of time.
