 Things to know:   2010

Marathon Mission© provides an avenue for ambitious people to raise funds for non-profit organizations. One person can raise $1000 to $10,000 via their efforts with Marathon Mission’s help. Imagine what a team of participants can do for your organization.

Founder Lisa Harper is available for a one-time speaking engagement to tell perspective participants how they can make a difference. Marathon Mission also host an annual event entitled “Marathon Mission UNPLUGGED” at the Emagine theater in Canton, MI.

The UNPLUGGED event is an informative and motivating time of Q&A including a one hour movie with various prior marathon footage. Participants love to see themselves on the SILVER SCREEN while others are moved by their efforts. This year’s UNPLUGGED will be Saturday, May 1 at 10:00 AM (get there early).

This year the Detroit Freepress/Flagstar Marathon will be on Sunday, October 16 preceded by the Pasta Supper on Saturday, October 17, 2010. Now is not too early to begin!

These are the steps to follow:

Complete the Charity Agreement Form (Standard Version or Detroit Version) when you have decided to make a financial impact in your organization. This information is used when your organization has it’s own featured section on the Marathon Mission website. Mail form and check for $35 (the only money MM will ask for) to Marathon Mission, at P.O. Box 87265, Canton, MI 48187.

Choose your team leader/leaders. Typically the ratio could be one team leader to every 100 participants. This person will be the main contact liaison between Marathon Mission and your team.

*      You or your team leader can acquire the Promotional Packet in digital format on the website or request hard copies with the Data CD from Lisa’s email or through the Marathon Mission, Canton P.O. Box. This packet will provide instructions and fundraising forms needed to begin the process.

Recruit for the 5K, or longer distances! Participants will need to register with the Detroit Free Press Marathon.  This can be done at the UNPLUGGED Event (where they’re given the biggest discount), online at www.detroitfreepressmarathon.com/

or by acquiring their registration form and mailing it in to the Detroit address. Either way, BE SURE you acknowledge you are participating through Marathon Mission. Keep a log of the people participating for your team. Keep in mind that the longer you wait to register the more the price goes up; early registration is the key!

*     You or your team leader can acquire the Promotional Packet in digital format from the Forms this website.  This packet will provide instructions and fundraising forms needed to begin the process.

*      Share the Marathon Mission website with your participants. We have trainers available and additional copies of forms they may want to use. We are here to help in many ways, as well as our monthly e-newsletter, for those who subscribe. The News2Use e-newsletter usually includes a letter from either one of our trainers or for those who subscribe.

*      Encourage your team to attend these events:

o       The UNPLUGGED Marathon Mission Movie Event, on May 1, 2010.  Location: Emagine Theater on Ford Rd. in Canton, MI. Doors open at 9:30 AM show starts at 10:00 AM.  Entrance is free. An optional love offering for Marathon Mission will be taken. Come see the best highlights of last year...all on the silver screen!

o    The Pasta Supper held Saturday, October 16 at 4:00 PM sharp to 6 PM.  Location: Connection Church on Sheldon Rd. in Canton, MI. This event is beneficial to the understanding and expectations of the participants and leaders. We give the latest updates for the marathon morning, any details about meeting places or parking situations and so much more! Pasta Supper tickets and red, race-day MM tee shirts must be ordered using either the (Standard Tees Order Form, Detroit Pasta & Tees Order Form

).

o       The Sunrise Celebration, the morning of the marathon at 6:00 AM. Just before the race we begin our day with worship, prayer and celebration near the starting area. This event has been captured by the Detroit Freepress, entitled ON A MISSION. Remember, 6:30 is our group photo, wear your Marathon Mission Team shirts!

*      Matching Marathon Mission Tee shirts are a Key Element! When worn on race day, they set the pace for all participants; we are reminded that we are a team with a goal to help make a difference in the world around us. Besides, they’re easy for our camera crew to spot in the crowd!  The MM tees can be ordered with our Pasta/Tees Order form (Standard Tees Order Form, Detroit Pasta & Tees Order Form

) and mailed to the MM Canton address.

*      Detroit Free Press Marathon Packets must be picked up from the Health and Fitness Expo at Cobo Hall on Friday, October 15 or Saturday, October 16.  5K participants only may pick up their packets either at the Expo or on race day near the start. Visit www.detroitmaration for all race packet instructions. Make sure to visit the Marathon Mission booth at the Expo for high fives!

*      Your organization or Team Leader may consider supplying transportation to Detroit, come the day of the marathon, Sunday, October 17. We have found this to be very helpful to some of the participants. Come early for our Sunrise Celebration!

*      After the Finish Line your team will come to our Marathon Mission Check-in point. Here they will get their official Certificate of Completion! Moreover it’s a great location to regroup your team before departing for your church service.

*      If possible have each participant, as well as yourself, complete a questionnaire. This is the best way we have to improve the Marathon Mission experience.Questionnaires are available in your Participants and Team Leader's Packets online. Please mail them to our MM Canton address within one week after the race. Thank you
