Charity Descriptions
The purpose of Marathon Mission is for committed walkers and runners to raise financial support for the myriad of outstanding missionaries, charitable workers, and community helpers, both stateside and abroad, who daily lay down their lives for the least of these. Marathon Mission is for those with a passion to see souls won, the hungry fed, the naked clothed, the orphans comforted, the downtrodden lifted up, and the homeless find shelter. We provide an avenue for individuals to use their strength to make an eternal impact. Below, you will see the list, as it continues to grow, of the Faith or community based organizations that have benefited from Marathon Mission since we began in 2003.
You can run or walk with Marathon Mission in any of the distance options of the marathon. 100% of the funds you raise go directly to the organization of your choice. The majority of public schools in Jamaica do not offer special classes or assistance to deaf children or children with other special needs. Many Jamaican deaf children are born into families that do not have the financial resources to provide their child with a private education or teach them a trade. These social and economic problems lead to a cultural climate in which deaf people are often overlooked and/or treated as outcasts.
Jamaica Christian School for the Deaf (JCSD) actively seeks out deaf children and works with their families to make it possible for them to receive an education in a safe and positive Christian environment. Their desire is to see each student reach his or her full potential. JCSD is a residential school. Most students live on campus four nights and five days a week, returning to their families on the weekends, for holidays and during the summer. There are some students that return home only when the school is closed during holidays and the summer. In addition to teaching their students sign language, they give them a solid education in Bible, Math, History, Science, and English. They also offer computer training and work experience for older students. Their students are encouraged to participate in extra curricular programs, which range from community service to dance and science clubs.

Oral Roberts University - "Renewing the Vision"
Oral Roberts University is a charismatic university founded in the fires of evangelism and upon the unchanging precepts of the Bible. The University was founded as a result of the evangelist Oral Roberts’ obeying God’s mandate to build a university on God’s authority and the Holy Spirit. God’s commission to Oral Roberts was to “Raise up your students to hear My voice, to go where My light is dim, where My voice is heard small, and My healing power is not known, even to the uttermost bounds of the earth. Their work will exceed yours, and in this I am well pleased.”
“Renewing the Vision”, a new ORU campaign, is an initiative by the ORU Board of Trustees to encourage alumni, current donors, ministers, and other friends of the university to give to projects at the university. Some of the projects include establishing endowed scholarships, attracting and retaining quality faculty and staff, academic program upgrades, other campus improvements, and more. For every dollar given by friends of ORU, the board of trustees will give a dollar toward the remaining debt, up to $25 million. Latino Christian Center- “Centro Cristiano Latino” “Dios es Amor”
Current research shows that 16% of the US population is Latinos. By the year 2050, that number will have grown to 25%. Michigan is one of twelve states in the US to have the highest percentage of Latinos living there. Specifically, only a small number of Latino churches exist in Oakland County. Pastors Adrian and Silvia Falgetelli are heeding the call of God to reach the Latino’s in this area. The needs of the Latino people in Oakland County are significant. The Falgetellis are reaching out to their spiritual and social needs, specifically in the areas of overcoming language barriers, legal status, and family issues. They assist the Latinos in northern Oakland County with improving their lives, adapting to this country, and growing in the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. C. P. Wagner says that “Church planting is the most effective evangelistic tool we have.” The Falgetellis believe this, too! You can support them in their efforts to plant the first Michigan District Sponsored Latino Church Plant. What an honor! What a privilege to be a part of this groundbreaking event! Young Life brings the good news of Jesus Christ into the lives of adolescents with an approach that is respectful of who kids are and hopeful about who they can be. Picture a sea of teenage faces in a crowded school hallway. Some kids are trying to blend in; some are being carried along by the crowd; others are deliberately swimming against the tide. All of them are trying to find their way in a culture that is crowded with the noise and the glare of media messages and peer expectations. Young Life seeks to carry the message of Jesus Christ into that tumultuous tide and points teenagers toward life as they were created to live it.
Since 1941, the dynamic that has characterized Young Life is its commitment to relationships — Young Life Leaders meeting kids on their turf, in the interest of friendship. As leaders get to know teenagers, they are able to share the love of Jesus Christ through platforms like Young Life Club, Campaigners and trips to camp. Whether kids are seeking answers or just acceptance, Young Life is there for them, armed with a desire for fun and the ultimate message of hope.
In WyldLife, they love middle school kids! These kids are full of life and yet experiencing profound emotional and physical changes. Middle school is a time when kids make important decisions about who they are and what they believe. They seek to model and express God's love to our young friends by learning their names, hearing their stories and honoring their God-given desire for a life of fun, adventure and purpose. Visit them on the web at pcwyldlife.younglife.org or email joe@ylpc.younglife.org .
