Running in ice water

Hey? What can I say? At least I tried…

My kids had a snow day today because of the ice. Do you think that stopped me from running outside? NO! I knew it was going to be an adventure, but I put on my moisture wicking socks plus wool socks and slid out the front door with uncertainty.

“Okay, I can to this!” Every step was a risk, but I’m happy to say I did not fall down. What really made me turn around and head home was not the cold or the ice. It was the combination of the cold and the ice water slushing through my shoes! Who needs to go to 7 Eleven for a Slurpie when I had one called, “Winter Ice” right in my Reeboks? “Hmmm.” At first I thought I would just endure this. It’s nothing like running a marathon. But with every mushing step of ice water between my toes, I readjusted my reasoning: “This is just stupid, Lisa. You’ve got to turn home.”

My desires and my realities were colliding! Fortunately, it was really no big deal this winter if I shorten my run this once. Plus, it gave me the chance to climb up on our porch when I got home and take down those lonely Christmas lights.

What do you do when obstacles come your way with running or walking or just plain life? Sometimes we have to face the music and readjust our plans. This takes a level of trust, actually. For the believer in Christ, God promises in Romans 8:28 that He works all things together for our good. All things? Yep, All things.

So look for the good in each day. Give it to God and trust Him to direct your every step…dry ones and wet ones!
